Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Saint Vincent Takes The Battle of Route 30

GREENSBURG – The Bobcat women's basketball team took on the Bearcats of Saint Vincent in the hardwood edition of the Battle of Rt. 30. Despite a valiant comeback by the Bobcats, Saint Vincent was able to keep the lead late in the fourth quarter to defeat Pitt-Greensburg 77-65.

Senior Sidney McCully and Sophomore Melina Maietta each scored 19 points for the Bobcats while freshman Chloe Lukondi contributed nine points. Perhaps a shock to outsiders, but not a shock to anyone that has been around the Bobcats women's basketball team the past four years was 5-foot-five-inch Lizzie Penrose leading the Bobcats in rebounds with nine, despite the Bearcats having multiple post players ranging over six feet tall.

A running goal that first-year head coach Darien Lantz has had for the Bobcats this season was to complete a game with less than ten turnovers. The Bobcats did that today as the team recorded just seven turnovers in the game. That is a season best for the team.

On the other side of the court, Saint Vincent had four of their five starters score in double-digits. Emily Thompson had 18 while Emily Cavacini and forward Ella Marconi had 17 each. Marconi also had 11 rebounds to complete the double-double. Forward Madison Weber also had ten.

The Bobcats will teak a well-deserved break from the Holidays after winning three of the final four of the team's games this semester. Pitt-Greensburg will be back in action for their final non-conference game as they host Franciscan on Dec. 30 at 1 PM.
