PITTSBURGH, PA – The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg women's basketball team lost in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championship game, 72-59, to top seeded La Roche University this afternoon.
Shaquoia McCray led the Bobcats in both scoring and rebounding, as she posted her second straight double-double, with 15 points and 18 rebounds. The senior ended the season with double-digit rebounds in nine of the final 10 games, today's 18 was a season high.
La Roche scored the opening nine points of the game and never gave the lead away. Pitt-Greensburg cut into the 12-point first quarter deficit with a 23-20 second quarter to make it a nine-point game (39-30) at the half, behind 11 second quarter points by Melina Maietta.
The Redhawks jumped right back to their double-digit lead on their opening possession of the second half and they kept it at double-figures for the rest of the game. A big run eluded Pitt-Greensburg throughout. McCray scored 10 of her 15 points in the fourth quarter, but La Roche had an answer each time.
Sidney McCully scored 14 points, Maietta ended with 13, and Maddie Sitler netted 10.
Pitt-Greensburg was held quiet from beyond the arc, going 2-for-14 in the game and 0-for-9 in the second half. While La Roche drained five of their six three-pointers in the first half to gain the early advantage.
The Bobcats used a six-player rotation, with all five starters playing over 30 minutes led by Sitler who was on the floor for all 40.
Despite the result today, Pitt-Greensburg still has much to be proud of in a tremendous season under first year head coach, Kelsey Oddis. Twenty wins is the most wins in a season since 2008-09. The season still has a chance to continue with an ECAC Tournament bid, the field will be announced on Monday.
This was the programs ninth visit to the AMCC Championship game and first since 2014-15.
