Bobcats Fight Hard; Fall Short in Season Opener

GREENSBURG – It was a battle of two Titans on the pitch at Ridilla Field this afternoon as the Grove City Wolverines visited the Bobcats. The game lived up to the hype, however, the Bobcats fell to Grove City 3-2.

Like the men's game earlier in the day, another freshman put the Bobcats on the board first, as Megan Hickey scored her first collegiate goal at the 4:50 mark in the first half. Grove City came storming back, scoring three unanswered goals on the Bobcats.

Pitt-Greensburg showed its resiliency, as the team continued to put pressure on the Wolverines, recording 15 shots on the GCC keeper. The constant pressure eventually paid off as sophomore Sarah Tonkovich brought the Bobcats within a goal, as she found the back of the net with less than 12 minutes left in the game.

Freshman keeper Hailey Kepner made seven saves on ten shots for the Bobcats. Kepner, as well as Nylah Pannebaker and Alexsia Barlamas were  the only UPG players to play the full 90 for coach Chuck Wigle. Freshman Abby Henise led the way off the bench as she played 55 minutes for Pitt-Greensburg.

The Bobcats will be back on Ridilla Field Saturday as they host Wilson. KIckoff will be at 1 pm. It is also Family Day.
