Women's Basketball Gets Back to Winning Ways Against Altoona

GREENSBURG – Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball was coming into Wednesday's matchup with PS Altoona in somewhat of a slump. The team had lost two-consecutive AMCC games and needed a bounce-back game. A bounce back is exactly what they got as the Bobcats shot 50 percent from the floor in the first half to take a 21-point lead into half time. That would be all Pitt-Greensburg needed to take home its sixth AMCC victory, beating the Lions 65-56.

Melina Maietta led the team with 18 points while dishing out five assists and securing four rebounds. She also had her season best night on defense with four steals. Tiana Moracco, the masked woman, also scored in double digits with 11 points and secured eight rebounds. The scoring was spread out for the Bobcats as eight of the nine players in the game had a basket. Altoona was led by Avanna Sayles who had 17 points and nine rebounds.

The Bobcats will be back inside Chambers Hall for a special game on Saturday against Alfred State. It will be Special Olympics Day inside Chambers Hall as the athletes of the Special Olympics of Westmoreland County will be recognized and play in a pickup game at halftime of the women's game. Partial proceeds of ticket sales as well as a 50/50 raffle will be donated to the Special Olympics of Westmoreland County. Tip off of the game will be at 1:00 PM and will be followed by the men at 3:00 PM.
