Softball Opens 2024 Season With Split

LEESBURG, Fla – The Pitt-Greensburg softball team opened the 2024 slate in Florida with a split doubleheader against Skidmore and Beloit. The Bobcats defeated Beloit 4-3 behind 10 strikeouts from junior pitcher Melanie Mienke. Mienke threw the full seven innings, giving up five hits and three runs, none of them earned. The Bobcats dropped game two of the day against Skidmore 8-7 on a walk off.
 
Mienke also helped herself as she reached base two times on two hits. Senior Catcher Madison Stonbraker drove in three of the four Bobcat runs with a double. Freshman first baseman Makenzie Lang had a day of firsts with her first hit, her first RBI, and her first run scored.
 
Sophomore Autumn Powell pitched game two of the day and struck out six batters over 6.2 innings. The Bobcats recorded 12 hits in game two with freshmen Madison Gardner and Mckenzie Lamb each having a multi-hit game. Gardner had three hits while playing second base while Lamb had two hits while playing shortstop. Each of the Bobcat seven runs were drove in by a different batter.
 
The Bobcats will be back at it tomorrow as they will take part in day two of their Spring Break competition. Game one will be against New England at 11:30 AM while game two will be against Saint Mary's at 1:30 PM.
