Softball Earns Sweep of Mount Aloysius

CRESSON - Mount Aloysius was picked as a preseason favorite by the coaches of the AMCC. With rain outs the last week and a half, the Bobcats came into the match up with the Mounties not playing a single conference game to date. Even with these circumstances, the Bobcats were able to sweep away Mount Aloysius. Pitt-Greensburg outscored the Mounties 10-4 in two games.

Junior Melanie Mienke pitched a gem in game one, throwing seven innings of two-hit ball while striking out six. Mienke did not give up a run in the game, earning her second shutout of the season. The two shutouts are the most Mienke has had in a singles season and the third of her career. Three of the Bobcats' four hits came from the first three batters in the batting order. Pitt-Greensburg was not able to break the deadlock at zero until the seventh inning when senior Megan Toth scored on an error hit by  Jessica Dunn. Dunn ended up coming home later in the inning on a Jadyn Davis single.

Game two saw more offense by both teams as The Bobcats took a 7-3 lead after four innings. Pitt-Greensburg added another insurance run in the seventh. The Bobcats tallied 14 hits in the game,w ith six of them coming from the bats of Davis and Madison Stonbraker. Freshman Jessica Dunn hit her first collegiate home run, a three-run shot in the fourth inning. She had four RBI in the game. Autumn Powell earned her first win of the season, giving up three runs, one earned, over five hits and struck out six. Freshman Julia Jastrzebski pitched the final two innings.

The Bobcats will play a non-conference double header against Geneva on Friday before a weekend AMCC match up with Alfred State.
