The Pitt-Greensburg women's volleyball team showed resilience in Saturday afternoon's home match against Hilbert, pushing the Hawks in a tightly contested third set before falling 3-0 (25-14, 25-20, 25-23) at Chambers Hall.
Despite the final score, the Bobcats (2-19, 0-4 AMCC) displayed growth and grit, especially in the third frame, which featured nine tie scores and four lead changes. Pitt-Greensburg nearly forced a fourth set, but Hilbert (16-8, 3-1 AMCC) held on late to secure the sweep.
Racey Scheuerman led the Bobcats with a .300 hitting percentage, tallying four kills on ten attempts. Paige Phillips, Jackie Shields, and Mia Stohon also contributed four kills apiece, while Lilly Buckles added three kills and a team-high six service aces.
Abigail Smulik paced the offense with eight assists and chipped in three kills. Buckles and Shyann Dongilli anchored the defense with 10 and 17 digs, respectively, while Grace Bradley added seven digs of her own.
Pitt-Greensburg improved its attack efficiency in the second and third sets, hitting .135 and .047 respectively, after a slow start in the opening frame. The team totaled 24 kills and 50 digs in the match.
The Bobcats will look to build on their competitive performance as they continue AMCC play next Saturday as they travel to Alfred State for a tri-match with the host Pioneers and a non-conference matchup with SUNY Oneonta.Â
