The Pitt-Greensburg men's and women's cross country teams ran at the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Championships on Saturday, facing off against tough competition and even tougher course conditions.
Men's Team Highlights
David Brokaw led the Bobcats with a 23rd-place finish, clocking in at 32:12.3. Brokaw, who entered the race with the 15th-best time in the AMCC this season, went out aggressively and was in 8th place early on before fading in the latter stages of the race.
"Dave had eyes on all-conference and showed guts going for it," said Head Coach Jeremy Eshleman. "He started with the pack fighting for all-conference and was 8th early. Unfortunately, he faded during the race."
William Vaughen placed 33rd in 35:52.5, and Thomas Murawski followed in 34th with a time of 36:47.6, rounding out the men's scoring.
Women's Team Highlights
Trinity Lockwood-Morris once again led the women's team, placing 12th overall with a time of 28:32.4. Lockwood-Morris, who entered the meet with the 9th-best time in the conference, ran a strategic race and battled closely with Carlow's Ella and Lacy before being edged out in the final 2,000 meters.
"Trinity ran one of her smartest races in her career," Eshleman said. "She battled all race with Ella and Lacy from Carlow but they edged her out in the final 2000 meters."
Jocelyn Bielak finished 23rd in 33:01.1, followed by Laura Vittone (32nd, 36:22.8), Carinna Darragh (33rd, 37:09.0), and Caroline Davis (34th, 39:16.5).
Challenging Conditions and Looking Ahead
The course was heavily impacted by rain earlier in the week, creating muddy and slow conditions that affected times across the board.
"The course today was extremely muddy from the rain this week," Eshleman noted. "I'm looking forward to regionals for the ones going in two weeks as they want redemption from this sloppy and slow course today."
With several runners eyeing redemption at the NCAA Regional Championships, the Bobcats will look to close out the season on a high note.
