Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball showed flashes but ultimately fell 86-49 to Grove City on Saturday afternoon at College Arena.
The Bobcats (0-5) trailed 20-10 after the first quarter but responded with their best stretch of the game in the second. Autumn Matthews hit back-to-back jumpers early in the period, and later knocked down a three-pointer to cut the deficit to single digits at 29-38. Kaylee Charles added a layup off a Matthews assist, and Jocelyn Bielak scored in transition to keep Pitt-Greensburg within striking distance. The Bobcats shot 61.5% in the quarter and went into halftime down just 40-30.
Tiana Moracco led the way with 15 points and nine rebounds, including a pair of free throws and a fastbreak layup that energized the team in the first half. Matthews finished with 12 points, while Bielak added nine points, seven rebounds, and five assists. Charles provided a spark off the bench with 10 points and five boards.
Grove City pulled away in the third quarter, opening with a 3-pointer from Alexis Hudson and a fastbreak layup to extend the lead. Despite a quick response from Moracco and Bielak, the Wolverines' 24-point third quarter proved decisive. Grove City capitalized on turnovers throughout, scoring 28 points off Pitt-Greensburg's 25 giveaways.
The Bobcats shot 34.6% from the field and 75% from the line, while Grove City hit 12 three-pointers and got 35 points from its bench.
The Bobcats road stretch continues on Tuesday as they travel to Allegheny to take on the Gators with a 5:30PM tip-off.
