Pitt-Greensburg men's basketball kept its undefeated season alive in emphatic fashion, powering past Alfred State 91-61 on Saturday afternoon at Chambers Hall. The Bobcats improved to 9-0 overall and 3-0 in AMCC play, while the Pioneers dropped to 2-9 and 0-3 in the conference.
From the opening tip, Pitt-Greensburg seized control. Matthew Marinchak got the scoring started with a jumper, and Trent Rozich followed with a layup and a three-pointer to spark an early run. By the first media timeout, the Bobcats had built a 12-5 lead and never looked back. Rozich's vision was on full display, assisting on multiple baskets as UPG pushed the pace.
Midway through the first half, Ty Keffer knocked down back-to-back jumpers in the paint, and Marinchak began to heat up from deep. In a dazzling stretch late in the half, Marinchak buried three triples in less than two minutes, ballooning the lead to 45-28. His fifth three-pointer of the period came with just over a minute remaining, sending the Bobcats into halftime up 48-31.
The second half was more of the same. Pitt-Greensburg's defense forced turnovers early, and Rozich turned one steal into a highlight-reel fast-break dunk at the 14:39 mark, igniting the crowd and pushing the margin past 20 points. Moments later, Bigley and Marinchak combined for a quick five points, and the Bobcats' bench joined the scoring spree. Tony Martin and Tyler Freas drilled threes to keep the momentum rolling, and Marinchak capped his stellar night with another deep ball at 4:36 for an 87-55 advantage.
Marinchak finished with 28 points on 11-of-20 shooting, including 6-of-10 from beyond the arc. Rozich added 15 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists, while Bigley chipped in 12 points. Pitt-Greensburg shot 50 percent from the field and 48 percent from three, while holding Alfred State to just 33.8 percent shooting.
Alfred State's Mykell Lawson led the visitors with 20 points and five three-pointers, but the Pioneers couldn't overcome Pitt-Greensburg's balanced attack and relentless tempo.
The Bobcats will now enjoy a break before returning to action at the Albright Holiday Tournament December 29-30.Â
