Pitt-Greensburg rallied late but fell short in a 56-50 loss to Alfred State in AMCC action Saturday afternoon at Chambers Hall. The Bobcats (1-7, 1-2 AMCC) trailed by 13 in the second quarter but fought back behind strong fourth-quarter shooting, hitting 58.3% from the field in the final period.
Alfred State built a 25-12 lead midway through the second quarter, but Pitt-Greensburg responded with back-to-back three-pointers from Autumn Matthews, cutting the margin to 25-20. Matthews hit her third triple early in the third quarter, and Jocelyn Bielak added a fast-break layup to pull the Bobcats within five at 32-27. GiGi Finch kept UPG close with clutch free throws, going 7-for-8 at the line. In the fourth quarter, Bielak scored inside and Ca'Mari Walden converted a layup to make it 47-42, and Anna Durbin drilled a three-pointer with 16 seconds left to bring the Bobcats within five, but Alfred State sealed the win at the line.
Matthews led Pitt-Greensburg with 13 points, including three three-pointers, and added four rebounds and two assists. Bielak and Walden each scored 10 points, while Finch provided seven points and five rebounds off the bench. The Bobcats shot 40.9% from the floor and 30.8% from beyond the arc, while matching Alfred State with 24 points in the paint and getting 10 points from their bench.
Pitt-Greensburg returns to Chambers Hall on Saturday, Dec. 20, hosting Hood College at 1 p.m.
