Men's Basketball Secures First-Round Bye With Win Over Bradford

GREENSBURG, PA – Win and earn a bye to go straight to the AMCC semifinals. That was the story for the Pitt-Greensburg men's basketball team as they celebrated senior day against AMCC Regular Season Champions in the Pitt-Bradford Panthers. The Bobcats controlled their destiny, and they took it. 15 points by Matthew Marinchak, including a giant bucket in the final minute to give the Bobcats the lead as time ran down, helped Pitt-Greensburg earn that first-round bye and defeat the Panthers 90-88.

Sophomore Trent Rozich also had a huge game, scoring 19 points, securing six rebounds, and handing out five assists. Junior Michael Bigley had a career game, scoring clutch basket after clutch basket on his way to 21 points with four assists and three rebounds. Joziah Wyatt-Taylor also scored in double digits with 11 points.

The Bobcats shot 82 percent from the free-throw line, including Bigley and Rozich going 19-for-22. Pitt-Greensburg held the Panthers' pace in check, as Bradford could account for just 10 fastbreak points. UPG had it going from behind the arc, making 44 percent of their shots for 21 points. Overall, the lead changed hands ten times, with the last coming on Marinchak's shot with 13 seconds left.

The Bobcats will focus on the postseason on Friday as they travel to Bradford to compete in the AMCC semifinals. Pitt-Greenburg will face the winner of Penn State Altoona and Hilbert. The Bobcats split the season series with Altoona while sweeping the Hawks on the back of a Ty Keffer buzzer-beater just a week ago.
