Softball Swept in First Doubleheader of Home Slate

GREENSBURG, PA – The Pitt-Greensburg softball team played its home opener against the Grove City Wolverines on Saturday, dropping both legs of the doubleheader. The Bobcats lost game one 4-1 while dropping game two 13-0.
 
Game One:
 
Grove City scored all its runs in the fifth inning or later as Melanie Mienke pitched seven innings, giving up three earned runs. She struck out five batters and scattered eight hits through the seven innings. Makenzie Lang had two of the Bobcats' six hits and drove in Pitt-Greensburg's one run on the day.
 
Hunter Taylor drew two walks off Grove City sophomore pitcher Abigail Meadors, who also pitched seven innings and struck out eight Bobcats.
 
Game Two:
 
The second game was 5-0 until the seventh inning, when the Wolverines scored seven runs. Grove City tallied 15 hits and walked seven times in the game. The Bobcats also made four errors in the field.
 
UPG reached base only four times in the game and struck out six times. Kyla Campbell earned the win for the Wolverines.
 
Up Next:
 
The Bobcats will host the Cougars of Chatham on Wednesday in Greensburg. The first pitch of game one will be at 3 p.m.
