Powell Throws Gem; Softball Split with Hilbert

GREENSBURG, PA – The Bobcat softball team has stepped up in the absence of their teammate and program strikeout leader, Melainie Mienke, as she has been nursing an injury after being hit by a pitch over a week ago. Today, her pitching teammates stepped up huge as junior Autumn Powell threw a complete-game shutout in the team's AMCC Opener. Game two saw sophomore Julia Jastrzebski pitch very well, but the Bobcat offense faltered as the Bobcats and Hawks split the doubleheader.

Game One:

A pitcher's duel it was as the score was deadlocked at zero until the Bobcats broke through in the fourth inning on a Jessica Dunn double that scored Hunter Taylor. Taylor scored two of the Bobcats' four runs in the game. Jadyn Davis hit her first triple of the season in the fifth inning and scored on the same play after a right fielder's error.

Powell threw the most strikeouts she has had in a game since her freshman season. Autumn struck out seven Hawks en route to her first career complete-game shutout.

Game Two:
The Bobcats did not record a hit until the sixth inning of game two, but were able to get a run across the plate. Jastrzebski and Paige Phillips scattered nine hits across seven innings. Jastrzebski started the game and had a bounce-back performance to remember, striking out three batters. Just two of the runs she gave up were earned.

Sophomore Madison Gardner earned the Bobcats' lone extra-base hit.

Up next:

The Bobcats will take on Carlow in yet another AMCC Doubleheader on Wednesday, April 2. The first pitch at West Field will be at 3:00 p.m.
