Softball Splits Tuesday Slate

WINTER HAVEN, FL – Pitt-Greensburg senior pitcher Melanie Mienke earned her first pitching win of the season on Tuesday as the Bobcats split a pair at The Spring Games. The Bobcats took down the Blue Jays of Elizabethtown in the early game and fell to Heidelberg in the latter.
 
Game One:
 
Six Bobcat runs gave Pitt-Greensburg a 6-2 lead after the first inning as UPG took advantage of the Jays' mishaps. Three of the nine Bobcat runs were unearned, as both teams had struggled on the field. Freshman Shelby Cloak continued her hot start with two batted-in and a run scored, while Jadyn Davis, Beatrice Cook, and Kylie Karns all had hits. Cook drove in four runs to pair with Cloak as the Bobcats batters to drive in multiple runs.
 
Mienke pitched a complete game, striking out four batters and just one earned run. She scattered eight hits over the seven innings to earn the first win.
 
Game Two:
 
Heidelberg took a five-run lead into the third inning before the Bobcats could get on the board in the top of the third for their only two runs. Sophomore Sadie Kelly drove in a run on a double to left field, followed by Cassidy Kunkel scoring on a wild pitch. The Knights scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning with two outs to end the game.
 
Paige Phillips and Autumn Powell pitched in the game. Powell pitched 4.2 innings in relief, striking out three batters and giving up two earned runs.
 
Up Next:
 
The Bobcats will have an off day on Wednesday and return to the field on Thursday.
