Softball Completes Florida Slate

WINTER HAVEN, FL – Friday was the last day of games for the Pitt-Greensburg softball team in Florida. The Bobcats played Northwestern (MN) and Wentworth. UPG dropped both games and finished the Florida slate 3-7.

Game One:

A seven-run bottom of the first doomed the Bobcats early as the Eagles added another run in the second and fourth innings before the Bobcats could get on the board in the top of the fifth. The Bobcats were outhit 11 to 4 and had two more errors than Northwestern.

Melanie Mienke pitched the complete game for the Bobcats, throwing 114 pitches. Nine of her 11 outs were flyouts. Just five of the nine runs the Bobcats gave up were earned.

Game Two:

It was much of the same for the Bobcats in the second game of the day, as a four-run first inning put WIT ahead early, and they didn't look back. Wentworth added four more runs in the third inning and three in the fourth, outhitting the Bobcats 13 to 4.

Autumn Powell and Julia Jastrzebski were the two Bobcat pitchers, with Jastrzebski throwing 2.2 innings, giving up three earned runs, and striking out a batter.

Up Next:

The Bobcats will return home on Saturday and return on the diamond on Saturday, March 15, when the Wolverines of Grove City will travel to Greensburg.
