Softball Celebrates Seniors With Sweep of Bradford

GREENSBURG, PA – The Pitt-Greensburg softball class of 2025 is one to remember. The three made a total of 208 starts in the Bobcat uniform, but it isn't possible to put a number on the memories that Kylie Karns, Beatrice Cook, and Melanie Mienke gave us on the diamond. The Bobcats celebrated these three with a sweep of Pitt-Bradford in what could be their final games on the field they have called home for the last four years. Mienke earned her sixth win of the season in game one, throwing yet another complete game, with the Bobcats winning 3-1. Game two saw UPG battle, overcome adversity, and hit two home runs, both two-run shots, to win 5-2.

Game One
The Strikeout Queen lived up to her name in game one, sitting down eight Panthers while allowing just four hits and one earned run.

The Bobcats also had four hits in the game, making each count as they scored their first two runs while recording just two hits. Freshman Shelby Cloak had two hits in the game, but that was not all she did in the doubleheader, as you will learn in game two.

Cloak drove in two of the three Bobcat runs, while sophomore Hunter Taylor drove in Jess Dunn for the other run. Both Cloak and Taylor had two Bobcat doubles in the game.  The Bobcats were also patient at the plate, drawing four walks in the game.

Game Two
Pitt-Greensburg doubled Bradford's hits in game two, with Karns celebrating her senior day with two hits. Not to be outdone by Beatrice Cook, who played a sterling center field, covering an enormous amount of ground to keep junior pitcher Autumn Powell's line squeaky clean. Powell pitched a complete game while allowing just two earned runs and striking out seven batters.

The Bobcats were down 1-0 in the fifth inning before Makenzie Lang hit a ball over the foul pole for her second home run in as many games. The Panthers followed that with an RBI single to tie the game at two. The tie was shot-lived, however, as Cloak delivered her second home run of the season that ended with a thud off the scoreboard to give the Bobcats a 4-2 lead. Lang finished the scoring with a single later in the sixth to score Dunn for all the needed insurance.

Up next

The Bobcats have two AMCC series left on their schedule, both on the road. On Saturday, April 26, UPG will travel to Erie to take on Penn State Behrend. The Lions sit one game ahead of the Bobcats in the AMCC standings. The first pitch will be at 1 p.m.
