Softball Sweeps Behrend

ERIE, PA—Pitt-Greensburg softball came into Sunday's doubleheader against Penn State Behrend, winners of three consecutive games, including a sweep of Pitt-Bradford on Senior Day. The Bobcats kept that momentum going as they pushed their case for a top-two seed in the AMCC playoffs closer than it has been this season. The Bobcats swept the Lions on their senior day, 6-3 and 9-1.

Game One:
The forever reliable Melanie Mienke took the circle in game one, striking out five Behrend Lions and giving up just three earned runs. Five Bobcats had a multi-hit game, including Hunter Taylor, who had three singles. Jessica Dunn and Makenzie Lang recorded the Bobcats' two extra-base hits.

Mienke earned her team-leading seventh win of the season, and her defense paved the way. The Bobcats did not record an error in 30 balls in play. Behrend outhit Pitt-Greensburg 15-13.

Game Two:

It was all Pitt-Greensburg in the second game of the day, as the Bobcats jumped on Behrend early and often. A 2-0 lead turned into a 6-0 lead in the fourth inning. UPG followed that up with three runs in the sixth.
Junior Autumn Powell gave up just one earned run on six hits. She forced the Lions to ten flyouts compared to just four groundouts. Dunn followed up her two-hit game in game one with yet another two-hit game and drove in two more runs. Freshmen Madyson Hart and Shelby Cloak also had two hits in the game. One of Cloak's hits went for extra bases.

Up next:
The Bobcats currently sit in third place in the AMCC and will look to move up to second and host the first round of the AMCC Tournament at home. The Bobcats will take on La Roche on Wednesday. Other games to watch are Mount Aloysius against Carlow on Wednesday, as well as Penn State Behrend and Alfred State.
