Softball Finishes Regular Season With AMCC Split

GREENSBURG, PA – A sweep was needed for the Pitt-Greensburg softball team to secure hosting the first round of the AMCC Tournament this weekend. Unfortunately, with a La Roche comeback win in game one and a Mount Aloysius win, the Bobcats couldn't get it done. However, Pitt-Greensburg split with La Roche on the final play date of the AMCC regular season, giving them the three-seed in the AMCC Tournamnet a three-way tie for firtsy place in the regular season, the best in program history.

Game One
It was bombs away for the Bobcats as sophomores Hunter Taylor and Sadie Kelly hit their first home runs of the season, followed by a Shelby Cloak RBI double, to give Pitt-Greensburg a 4-0 lead going into the bottom half of the third inning.
The RedHawks could battle back within one, but Hunter Taylor continued her big game with an RBI single to left field, and a Makenzie Lang double scored another run to put the Bobcats up three once again.   That is all the runs the Bobcats could muster as La Roche scored six unanswered runs to earn a 9-6 victory.

Taylor and Cloak accumulated five of the Bobcats' 11 hits, and Taylor drove in three of the six Pitt-Greensburg runs. Cloak had two doubles in the game. Senior Melanie Mienke pitched six innings for the Bobcats.

Game Two
Another first-inning home run by Taylor, a two-run shot, gave the Bobcats a 2-0 lead on the fourth batter of the day. The RedHawks didn't go down easily, as they were also battling for their AMCC playoff lives. However, Jessica Dunn ended the RedHawks with three runs batted in over the remainder of the game, hitting a home run and a single.

La Roche was able to reach within two in the second inning, but that was as close as they could get as Autumn Powell shut the door. Powell pitched a complete game, striking out four batters and giving up just three earned runs.
