Burkey Earns Fifth Win; Baseball Splits With Mount

JOHNSTWON, PA—The Pitt-Greensburg baseball team is in the middle of a crucial week of AMCC play, and they started it with a split against Mount Aloysius at the site of the AMCC Championship Tournament that will take place this May. The Bobcats rallied behind a masterclass of pitching from sophomore Conner Burkey in game one, winning 6-1, but they were out slugged in game two, losing to the Mounties 8-3.
 
Game One
 
Zach Tyson and Colin Solinski led the Bobcats' offensive charge in game one, combining for five hits and four RBI. Junior James Domer scored two of those runs and had three hits. The top five in the Bobcats' order had multiple hits, led by Domer and Tyson with three each.
 
Pitt-Greensburg out-hit Mount Aloysius 15 to 6, as Conner Burkey earned his AMCC-leading fifth win. Burkey spread six hits across seven innings and struck out four batters while not walking a batter, but hitting one batter with a pitch.
 
The Bobcats tallied 11 hits off Mount's No. 1 pitcher, Tyler Quade. In 5.1 innings, Quade walked three batters and struck out just one.
 
Game Two
 
The Bobcats jumped out to a three-run lead in the second inning of game two and led 3-2 until the bottom of the sixth inning. Two of the Bobcats' first three runs were unearned, as Hunter Gideons and Neo Miller both reached on errors.
 
Both Ben Aftanas and Solinski had multiple hits in game two. Aftanas also reached base with a walk. The Mounties outhit the Bobcats 12 to 9 in game two.
 
Up next
 
Pitt-Greensburg will continue AMCC play this Sunday, April 13, against Alfred State. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Bobcat Park.
