BRADFORD, PA—The Pitt-Greensburg softball program has been taking the field for 26 seasons, as the Bobcats first played in NCAA competition in 1999. The 2025 team cemented its mark in history, as not only did the team have its highest AMCC regular season finish in program history, but the Bobcats celebrated their first AMCC Tournament Championship as the team defeated the No. 1 seeded Penn State Altoona Lions 5-1 on Sunday.
Senior pitcher
Melanie Mienke, also referred to as the program's strikeout queen to many, earned the win in the Championship-clinching game, throwing seven innings and striking out three batters. The only run given up was unearned. The win was Mienke's ninth win of the season, tying her career-high in wins for a season.
The Bobcats fell behind 1-0 in the first inning, but a third-inning single by sophomore
Jessica Dunn drove in
Jadyn Davis to tie the game. Freshman
Madyson Hart drove in the go-ahead run with a fourth-inning triple. Hart also drove an insurance run in the sixth inning on her second extra-base hit of the game. Madyson also scored two runs in the game, crossing home on a
Mia Dalessandro fielder's choice in the fourth and a
Kylie Karns ground out in the seventh.
The Bobcats will continue to make history as they compete in the NCAA Tournament next weekend. Pitt-Greensburg will find out its fate tomorrow, as the selection show will air at 11 a.m. on NCAA.org.
