Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

VB Opens the Season at Lycoming Kick-Off Classic

The Bobcat Volleyball team opened the 2025 season, the first under Head Coach Holly Saville, on the road at the Lycoming Kick-off Classic.

UPG vs SUNY New Paltz

UPG fell to SUNY New Paltz in 3 highly competitive sets to drop their first contest of the season with scores of 25-19, 25-18, 25-19. Mia Stohon led the offensive attack with 7 kills and Abigail Smulik contributed 6.  Grace Bradley led with 9 digs.

UPG vs Lycoming

Game 2 of the day also resulted in a 3 set loss for UPG, as Lycoming took the game with set scores of 25-18, 25-19, 25-14. Once again, Mia Stohon led the offensive attack with 10 kills. Coach Saville notes that "unexpected injuries caused some position changes and athletes stepped up in unfamiliar areas on the court."

UPG vs Penn State Hazleton

Day 2 of the Kick-Off Classic presented a new opportunity, but it wouldn't come easily as the Bobcats faced the reigning PSUAC champion PSU Hazleton. The offensive attack of Hazleton was hard to overcome, as UPG dropped the game in 3 sets. A pair of Hazleton hitters, Maliyah Coleman and Sydney Mack, had a combined 27 kills to take control of the game. For the Bobcats, Abigail Smulik had 6 kills and Grace Bradley chipped in 15 digs.

Despite the results, Coach Saville takes many positives out of the weekend. "This helps us to understand what consistency and staying in control of the ball really means. We have zero plans on being comfortable with losing. The team's mentality and work ethic are there and will produce success. There's work to be done, but I believe in them.

The Bobcats return to the court for their home opener as they welcome Washington and Jefferson to Chambers Hall. Gametime is set for 6pm on September 3rd.
