Pitt‑Greensburg mounted a spirited fourth‑quarter comeback and briefly took the lead, but the Bobcats could not overcome a difficult third quarter in a 49–45 loss to Hilbert on Saturday afternoon inside Chambers Hall.
Hilbert found early rhythm from the perimeter, with Mia Aldaya knocking down three triples in the opening period to help the Hawks build an 11–4 lead. The Bobcats weathered the hot start thanks to the interior presence of Abby Henise, who scored on a tip‑in and added two free throws to keep UPG within 13–10 at the end of the first.
Both teams struggled to score in a defensive‑heavy second quarter. Pitt‑Greensburg briefly surged in front when Laura Vittone connected on a mid‑range jumper at 8:14 and Jocelyn Bielak added two free throws moments later. The lead was short‑lived, though, as turnovers stalled UPG's offense and Hilbert reclaimed a tight 21–19 advantage heading into the break.
The third quarter belonged to the Hawks. Capitalizing on turnovers and missed Bobcat shots, Hilbert opened the half on a 15–6 run—highlighted by Sabala's transition jumpers and another Aldaya three—to stretch its lead to 34–19. The margin grew to 36–21 before Bielak beat the buzzer with a layup, giving UPG a spark entering the fourth.
The Bobcats seized that momentum and unleashed their best stretch of the game. Addison Musto drilled a right‑wing three early in the quarter, and Bielak followed with a deep ball to close the gap to 38–33. Henise's second‑chance finish trimmed it to three, and after another stop, Bielak converted in the lane and completed a three‑point play to bring the Bobcats within two.
Pitt‑Greensburg's surge continued as Vittone knocked down two free throws at 5:40 to tie the game at 40–40. Moments later, Henise buried a jumper from the elbow to give UPG its first lead since the second quarter. Although Hilbert tied it again, the Bobcats regained the lead when Hilbert's Nyema Blair missed a layup on one end and UPG pushed in transition, finding the hot‑handed Musto for another strong finish.
But every Bobcat push had a Hilbert answer. With UPG leading 45–43 at the 2:54 mark, the Hawks responded with a clutch three from Bianca Iten to retake the lead with 54 seconds remaining. Musto countered immediately with a fast‑break layup to make it 48–45, but Hilbert managed the clock well and added a key free throw with nine seconds left. Pitt‑Greensburg had two looks in the closing possessions, including a mid‑range attempt from Bielak, but both fell short as Hilbert escaped.
Bielak delivered a standout performance, scoring a game‑high 20 points with eight rebounds and three steals. Henise anchored the interior with an impressive 12‑point, 15‑rebound double‑double. Musto added nine points off the bench, consistently providing energy during the Bobcats' late push. Vittone handed out six assists and played a steady floor game throughout her 34 minutes.
Pitt‑Greensburg (1–13, 1–4 AMCC) will look to build on its resilient fourth‑quarter performance as it returns to conference play next week.
