Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball struck first on Monday night, but a big early surge from Mount Aloysius proved too much to overcome as the Bobcats dropped an AMCC matchup, 87–43, at the Athletic Convocation & Wellness Center.
The Bobcats came out with energy, and Jocelyn Bielak put UPG on the board less than a minute into the game, driving into the paint for a layup to give Pitt-Greensburg a brief 2–0 lead. The Mounties responded quickly, however, knocking down a three on the next possession and using defensive pressure to create a series of turnovers. A flurry of transition baskets and a pair of early threes put the Bobcats in a deep first‑quarter hole, trailing 22–5 after ten minutes.
Pitt-Greensburg settled in during the second quarter. Addison Musto connected from long range twice in the period, including a deep three from the left wing with 8:19 remaining. Henise added a finish at the rim off a feed from Bielak, and the Bobcats' ball movement improved as the half progressed. Bielak later grabbed an offensive rebound and drilled a three from the top of the arc with just over a minute left before halftime, trimming the deficit to 41–22. Mount Aloysius added one more late basket and went into the break ahead 44–22.
After halftime, Musto continued her sharp shooting, knocking down her third three of the night midway through the third quarter and adding two more later in the period. Bielak found her rhythm in the midrange as well, knocking down a pair of jumpers as the Bobcats looked to chip away. But Mount Aloysius continued to convert off second‑chance opportunities and turnovers, rebuilding its lead to 63–32 after three quarters.
Pitt-Greensburg played one of its strongest stretches of the night in the fourth. Henise attacked downhill twice for layups, scoring at 6:07 and again at 5:18, while Musto buried her fifth three-pointer of the game from the right wing with 7:20 left. Bielak added another jumper off a screen, and Phoebe Snyder and Vittone helped generate extra possessions on the defensive end. Still, the Mounties answered with timely shooting of their own and closed out the win.
Bielak led the Bobcats with 16 points, adding 5 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 steals, and a block in a full 40-minute effort. Musto was excellent from deep, scoring 15 points on 5-of-8 three-point shooting. Henise finished with 10 points, 4 assists, 4 steals and 2 blocks, while Vittone collected a team-high 7 rebounds.
The Bobcats return home Wednesday to host LaRoche for a 7PM tip.Â
