The Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball team dropped a 72-28 decision to Penn State Behrend on Wednesday evening at the Junker Center in AMCC play.
The Bobcats (1-12, 1-3 AMCC) started strong, scoring the game's first four points on layups by Jocelyn Bielak and Ca'Mari Walden to take an early 4-0 lead. Bielak finished with a team-high 12 points and added three rebounds and a steal, while Walden contributed eight points and seven boards.
After Pitt-Greensburg's quick start, Behrend responded with a 9-0 run to seize control. Bielak's second layup trimmed the deficit to 9-6 midway through the first quarter, but the Lions closed the frame on a 9-2 spurt to lead 18-8 after one.
The Bobcats continued to battle in the second quarter, highlighted by Bielak's layup at 9:17 and a three-pointer at 2:59 that cut the margin to 29-13. Walden added another basket in the paint moments later, but Behrend's transition offense and pressure defense proved difficult to overcome. The Lions led 35-15 at halftime.
In the second half, Pitt-Greensburg struggled to find offensive rhythm, shooting 22.5% from the field for the game. Kaprice Johnson provided a spark in the third and fourth quarters, scoring eight points and grabbing four rebounds. Abby Henise anchored the glass with a team-high 10 rebounds.
Despite the loss, the Bobcats showed resilience on the boards, pulling down 40 rebounds, including 34 on the defensive end. Pitt-Greensburg also converted 64.3% from the free-throw line.
The Bobcats return to conference action Saturday as they travel to Carlow for a 2PM tip.Â
