The Pitt-Greensburg women's volleyball team put together a strong showing Saturday afternoon, earning a pair of straight-set victories over Carlow University and Christendom College at Chambers Hall. The Bobcats did not drop a set in either contest, improving to 6-11 overall with the two wins.
Match One: Pitt-Greensburg 3, Carlow 0
Pitt-Greensburg opened the day with a commanding performance against Carlow, sweeping the Celtics by set scores of 25-13, 25-18 and 25-16.
The Bobcats controlled the match offensively, recording 40 kills while hitting .206 as a team. Pitt-Greensburg also held Carlow to a .000 hitting percentage and finished with a 10-2 advantage in service aces.
Lauren Fajbik and Mia Stohon led the offensive attack with eight kills apiece. Fajbik was particularly efficient, hitting .412 with just one error on 17 attempts, while Stohon added five digs and a solo block. Jackie Shields contributed seven kills, and Damia Sibblies chipped in six.
Abigail Smulik directed the Bobcat offense with 33 assists, 11 digs and three service aces. Ainsley Martin anchored the defense with a match-high 17 digs, while Hannah Binns provided a spark from the service line with four aces.
Pitt-Greensburg established control early, collecting 15 kills and hitting .231 in the opening set to secure a 25-13 victory. The Bobcats followed with their most efficient offensive set of the match, hitting .297 with 16 kills in the second frame to take a two-set advantage.
The Bobcats closed out the match with a 25-16 victory in the third set, securing their first win of the afternoon.
Match Two: Pitt-Greensburg 3, Christendom 0
The Bobcats carried their momentum into the afternoon matchup against Christendom, earning another straight-set victory by scores of 25-23, 25-17 and 25-23 to complete the Saturday sweep.
Jackie Shields led Pitt-Greensburg with eight kills, while Lauren Fajbik added seven. Abigail Smulik turned in another strong all-around performance, finishing with six kills on a .429 hitting percentage while distributing 21 assists.
Defensively, Ainsley Martin led the Bobcats with 13 digs and added five assists. McKenna Pore contributed 11 digs and two service aces, while Hannah Binns collected seven digs. Mia Stohon provided a boost from the service line with a team-high three aces.
The opening set was tightly contested, but Pitt-Greensburg came away with a 25-23 victory despite struggling offensively. The Bobcats found their rhythm in the second set, hitting .269 with 10 kills and just three attack errors to pull away for a 25-17 win.
Christendom responded with its strongest offensive set of the match in the third, recording 13 kills. However, the Bobcats answered with 12 kills of their own and held off the Crusaders for another 25-23 victory to complete the sweep.
Pitt-Greensburg finished with 29 kills, eight service aces and 40 digs while holding Christendom to a .031 hitting percentage.
With the two victories, the Bobcats finished their home tri-match with a perfect 6-0 record in sets, closing out a successful Saturday at Chambers Hall.
