The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg women's soccer team continued its strong play in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) action Saturday afternoon, rolling to a 4-0 shutout victory over Hilbert College at Scotties Stadium.
Four different Bobcats found the back of the net as Pitt-Greensburg improved to 9-4 overall and remained unbeaten in conference play at 4-0. The loss dropped Hilbert to 3-10 overall and 1-3 in the AMCC.
Pitt-Greensburg controlled the match from start to finish, outshooting the Hawks 22-0 and holding a 12-0 advantage in corner kicks.
The Bobcats broke through in the 22nd minute when Riley Gesinski scored off an assist from Tiger Santia to give Pitt-Greensburg a 1-0 lead. UPG continued to apply pressure throughout the opening half, firing 12 shots and forcing Hilbert goalkeeper Keira McFarland to make seven saves before the break.
Pitt-Greensburg carried that momentum into the second half, adding three goals in a span of just over 12 minutes to put the match out of reach.
Bella Carroto doubled the Bobcats' advantage in the 60th minute, finding the back of the net off a feed from Hailey Baer. Emma Reyes extended the lead to 3-0 in the 69th minute, capitalizing on a scoring opportunity following a shot from Carroto that struck the post.
Just under three minutes later, Kathryn Chiado capped the scoring in the 72nd minute, putting away a chance following another Carroto shot to give the Bobcats their fourth goal of the afternoon.
Carroto led Pitt-Greensburg's offensive attack with six shots, including five on goal, while Gesinski added four shots and three on target. Reyes finished with three shots, all on goal, and Chiado contributed two shots on target in 37 minutes off the bench.
Defensively, the Bobcats were equally impressive, preventing Hilbert from recording a single shot or corner kick throughout the 90 minutes. Goalkeeper Kira Howcroft played the entire match in net to earn the shutout.
Pitt-Greensburg finished with 15 shots on goal, while McFarland recorded 11 saves for the Hawks.
The Bobcats will look to continue their unbeaten run in AMCC play when they return to Scotties Stadium on Wednesday, October 21, to host Penn State Altoona in another conference matchup.
