Pitt-Greensburg Falls to Penn State Altoona in AMCC Road Match

The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg volleyball team fell to Penn State Altoona in straight sets, 3-0, Tuesday evening at Adler Arena.

The Bobcats (4-10, 2-3 AMCC) dropped the opening two sets by scores of 25-16 and 25-15 before putting together their strongest offensive performance of the evening in the third. Pitt-Greensburg battled the Lions in the final frame but ultimately fell, 25-21. 

Mia Stohon paced the Pitt-Greensburg attack with seven kills on 14 attempts while committing just two errors for a team-best .357 hitting percentage among players with at least 10 attempts. Stohon also contributed a service ace and a block assist to finish with a team-high 8.5 points. Lauren Fajbik followed with six kills, while Abigail Smulik added five kills and Jackie Shields finished with four. 

Smulik directed the Bobcat offense with 22 assists and also supplied two of the team's four service aces. Defensively, Ainsley Martin led Pitt-Greensburg with 12 digs, while Hannah Binns collected six. Smulik, Fajbik and McKenna Pore each added five digs. 

The Bobcats improved offensively as the match progressed. After recording nine kills with nine errors in the opening set, Pitt-Greensburg hit .034 in the second before producing 11 kills against five errors for a .188 hitting percentage in the third. Pitt-Greensburg finished the match with 28 kills and a .071 hitting percentage. 

Penn State Altoona (11-5, 4-1 AMCC) hit .261 for the match and finished with 36 kills, nine service aces and 43 digs. Lia Simanski led the Lions with 12 kills on 19 attempts, hitting .474 while adding three aces and 11 digs. 

The loss moves Pitt-Greensburg to 4-10 overall and 2-3 in AMCC play. The Bobcats return to action Saturday for a tri-match against Carlow and Christendom.
