Pitt-Greensburg battled throughout Wednesday night at Chambers Hall but ultimately fell to Penn State Altoona, 77–52, in AMCC action.
The Bobcats (1-23, 1-14 AMCC) showed early energy on the defensive end, forcing turnovers on Altoona's opening possessions. A three-pointer from Jocelyn Bielak at the 7:26 mark of the first quarter trimmed the deficit to 5–3, and later Addison Musto knocked down a triple to pull Pitt-Greensburg within two at 10–8. Ca'Mari Walden continued the push late in the period with a pair of strong finishes in the paint, cutting the margin to 16–14 after one.
Altoona responded in the second quarter with an interior run sparked by Lanie Wilt and Avana Sayles. A 7–0 spurt midway through the frame extended the Lions' lead, and back-to-back three-pointers from Ellie Irvin in the final three minutes helped push the advantage to double digits. Pitt-Greensburg stayed within striking distance behind Kaprice Johnson's work inside and Walden's attack off the dribble, but Altoona carried a 36–26 lead into halftime.
The Lions widened the gap in the third quarter. After Walden scored on consecutive possessions to keep the Bobcats within 10, Altoona capitalized on turnovers and second-chance opportunities. A steal and layup sequence at the 6:44 mark ignited a decisive stretch, and Irvin's three-pointer with 1:52 remaining in the quarter made it 56–36, giving Altoona its largest lead to that point.
Pitt-Greensburg continued to compete in the fourth. Walden drilled a three early in the period, and Musto connected from beyond the arc again late to cut into the deficit. Johnson added a tip-in in the third quarter and finished strong around the rim, providing a spark off the bench. However, Altoona answered each run, using balanced scoring and rebounding to maintain control down the stretch.
Walden led the Bobcats with 18 points, while Musto added 11, including three three-pointers. Johnson contributed 10 points and five rebounds off the bench, and Bielak pulled down eight rebounds to go along with seven points. Pitt-Greensburg finished 5-of-18 from three-point range and 17-of-24 at the free-throw line.
Altoona was paced by Irvin's 18 points and strong rebounding performances from Wilt and Sayles, who each recorded double-doubles. The Lions held a 48–40 edge on the boards and converted 19 second-chance points.
The Bobcats close out the regular season Saturday as they host Pitt-Bradford on senior day.
