Pitt-Greensburg Splits Thursday Twinbill in Florida

Pitt-Greensburg split a Thursday doubleheader on its spring break trip, rallying for a dramatic 13-5 win over Marywood in the opener before falling to Hood, 9-1, in the second game of the day.

The Bobcats used a late offensive surge to take game one but were unable to recover from a big inning by the Blazers in the nightcap.

Game 1 – Pitt-Greensburg 13, Marywood 5

Marywood jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning. A leadoff single and stolen base set the table before Marley Sarafino doubled to right center to score the game's first run. Tori Para followed with another RBI double, and Amber Little later added an RBI single to give the Pacers a 3-0 advantage.

Pitt-Greensburg answered in the bottom of the inning. Shelby Cloak reached on a walk and eventually came around to score after stealing third and crossing the plate on a throwing error, cutting the deficit to 3-1.

Marywood extended its lead in the second when Marissa Hoffman delivered a two-run single to right field, pushing the margin to 5-1.

The Bobcats began to chip away in the third inning. Hunter Taylor doubled to left center and later scored on an RBI single from Kenzie Lang. Moments later, Lilly Buckles drove in another run with a double to center field to trim the lead to 5-3.

Pitt-Greensburg continued the comeback in the fourth. Jadyn Davis singled and stole second before Cloak reached base. Jessica Dunn then delivered a clutch RBI double to left center to bring the Bobcats within one at 5-4.

The decisive rally came in the bottom of the fifth.

Kenzie Lang opened the inning with a single before Falynn Reinard and Buckles followed with base hits to load the bases. McKenzie Lamb drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the game, and Cassidy Kunkle followed with a run-scoring single to give Pitt-Greensburg its first lead.

Jadyn Davis extended the advantage with a two-run single up the middle before Cloak delivered the biggest swing of the game, blasting a three-run home run to center field. The Bobcats continued to add runs later in the inning, finishing with nine runs in the frame to secure the 13-5 victory.

Buckles led Pitt-Greensburg with three hits and two RBIs, while Cloak went 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs, and three runs scored. Davis added two hits and two RBIs in the win.

Nicole Palmer went the distance in the circle to earn the victory, allowing five runs on 11 hits while striking out three.

Game 2 – Hood 9, Pitt-Greensburg 1

The second game began as a pitchers' duel. Pitt-Greensburg starter Kaetlin Caylao tossed two scoreless innings to keep the Blazers off the board early.

Hood broke through in the third inning when Sam Larkin singled home a run to give the Blazers a 1-0 lead.

The Bobcats responded in the fourth. Brenna Altman drew a walk and Mia Dalessandro followed with a single before a sacrifice bunt moved both runners into scoring position. Whitney McCoskey then delivered an RBI single up the middle to tie the game at 1-1.

Hood quickly answered with a decisive rally in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring seven runs on six hits. The inning was highlighted by multiple run-scoring hits, including a two-run single from Larkin, as the Blazers built an 8-1 advantage.

Pitt-Greensburg threatened in the sixth when Hunter Taylor doubled to left center and moved to third on a groundout, but Hood starter Taylor Lowe recorded a strikeout to end the threat.

The Blazers added one more run in the bottom of the inning on an RBI groundout to seal the 9-1 victory.

Dalessandro led the Bobcats with two hits in the game, while McCoskey drove in the team's lone run.

Pitt-Greensburg will close out its Florida trip tomorrow with a pair of games. The Bobcats will face Alfred at 9:00 a.m. before taking on Ohio Northern later in the day.
