Pitt-Greensburg dropped both games of a Saturday doubleheader against Chatham, falling 8-2 in the opener before a late rally by the Cougars resulted in a 2-1 loss in game two.
Game One: Chatham 8, Pitt-Greensburg 2
Game one began as a tightly contested pitchers' duel as Pitt-Greensburg starter Tyler Litts and Chatham's Matt Bamford held both offenses scoreless through the first four innings.
The Bobcats threatened in the fourth inning when Colin Solinski and Josh Preston delivered consecutive singles before Nicholas Laubach worked a walk to load the bases with two outs. However, a strikeout ended the inning and kept the game scoreless.
Chatham broke through in the fifth inning. After two walks and a passed ball moved runners into scoring position, Keegan McGraw delivered an RBI single to put the Cougars on the board. Later in the inning, Hayden Woodward lined a two-run double to right center before Cooper Baxter followed with a two-run double of his own, capping a five-run inning and giving Chatham a 5-0 lead.
Pitt-Greensburg answered in the bottom half of the inning. Neo Miller started the rally with a leadoff double before William Somers and Zach Tyson drew walks to load the bases. Tommy Smith forced in a run with a bases-loaded walk and Colin Solinski added a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to 5-2.
Chatham extended its lead in the sixth inning, scoring three more runs on four hits to push the advantage to 8-2.
Miller led the Bobcats at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored, while Hunter Gideons, Josh Preston, and Solinski also recorded hits. Litts struck out four over 4.1 innings before Tommy Sheets, Lucas Judy, and Matt Malinsky combined to finish the game in relief.
Game Two: Chatham 2, Pitt-Greensburg 1
Game two featured another strong pitching performance for the Bobcats, as JJ Siemon kept the Cougars off the scoreboard for six innings.
Pitt-Greensburg broke through in the sixth inning. Neo Miller opened the frame with a single before Ben Aftanas laid down a sacrifice bunt to move him into scoring position. After advancing to third on a groundout, Miller came home on an RBI single through the right side by Tommy Smith, giving the Bobcats a 1-0 lead.
Siemon continued to work efficiently on the mound, navigating through traffic in the sixth by stranding runners after an error and hit-by-pitch kept Chatham within striking distance.
The Cougars rallied in the bottom of the seventh. A leadoff single and an error put two runners on before a sacrifice bunt advanced both into scoring position. Keegan McGraw then delivered a two-run single to center field, scoring both runners and giving Chatham a walk-off 2-1 victory.
Siemon was strong despite the tough-luck loss, allowing just two runs — both unearned — on six hits over 6.1 innings.
At the plate, Colby Rearick, Tommy Smith, Josh Preston, and Neo Miller accounted for Pitt-Greensburg's four hits in the game.
