The Pitt-Greensburg softball team continued play in Florida Monday with a pair of games against Curry and Haverford. The Bobcats collected 17 hits across the doubleheader and built an early lead in the opener before a late Curry rally, while Haverford used a big final inning to take the second game.
Game 1 – Curry 8, Pitt-Greensburg 6
Curry opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning with an inside-the-park home run to take a 1–0 lead. Pitt-Greensburg quickly answered in the third inning with a four-run frame.
Whitney McCoskey started the rally with a single and Jadyn Davis followed with a base hit to put two runners aboard. Shelby Cloak then delivered a key two-run double to left field to give the Bobcats their first lead of the game. Later in the inning, Kenzie Lang launched a two-run home run to center field, extending the Pitt-Greensburg advantage to 4–1.
Curry responded with a decisive rally in the fourth inning. After scoring once earlier in the frame, the Colonials loaded the bases before a two-run single tied the game. Another two-run hit later in the inning gave Curry a 6–4 lead.
The Colonials added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to stretch the margin to four.
Pitt-Greensburg made one final push in the seventh inning. Jessica Dunn opened the frame with a double before Hunter Taylor singled to place runners on the corners. Lang drove in a run with a single, and Brenna Altman added an RBI groundout to trim the deficit to 8–6. However, Curry recorded the final out to hold on for the win.
Cloak led the Bobcats with three hits and two RBIs, while Lang finished with three RBIs including her home run. Davis and Taylor each recorded two hits as Pitt-Greensburg totaled 13 hits in the contest.
Game 2 – Haverford 9, Pitt-Greensburg 0
The Bobcats kept the game scoreless through the first five innings behind solid pitching from Autumn Powell and strong defense.
Haverford broke through in the sixth inning with a pair of runs to take a 2–0 lead. The Fords then added seven runs in the seventh inning to pull away and secure the win.
Pitt-Greensburg recorded four hits in the contest, including a hit from Falynn Reinard, while Sadie Kelly reached base with a walk. The Bobcats also stranded seven runners in the game.
Powell went the distance in the circle for Pitt-Greensburg, pitching all seven innings while facing 37 batters.
