Bobcats Drop Home Contest to Presidents

Pitt-Greensburg fell to Washington & Jefferson, 15-2, on Monday afternoon at Bobcat Park, as a big fourth inning by the visitors proved to be the difference.

Washington & Jefferson struck first in the opening inning, using a two-out RBI double down the left field line to take an early 1-0 lead. The Bobcats threatened in the bottom half after a leadoff walk from William Somers, but the Presidents worked out of the inning with back-to-back strikeouts.

The Presidents extended their lead in the second, capitalizing on a defensive miscue and timely hitting to plate three runs. An RBI single and sacrifice fly highlighted the inning, pushing the advantage to 4-0.

Pitt-Greensburg answered in the third inning. Somers again ignited the offense with a single, and after advancing into scoring position, Jonah Marks delivered with a double to right center to bring home the Bobcats' first run and cut the deficit to 4-1.

The game turned decisively in the fourth inning. Washington & Jefferson erupted for 10 runs on 10 hits, stringing together a series of RBI singles, extra-base hits, and taking advantage of multiple errors and wild pitches. The extended inning pushed the score to 14-1 and put the game out of reach.

Despite the setback, the Bobcats continued to compete. In the sixth inning, Pitt-Greensburg loaded the bases with one out following a walk by Ryan Lamberth, a single from Landon Snider, and another walk by Lucas Judy. Kaden Faychak came through with an RBI single to left, scoring Lamberth and trimming the deficit to 15-2.

On the mound, Calvin Bernard took the loss for the Bobcats, while Landon Huth provided a solid effort in relief, allowing just one run over three innings and keeping the Presidents in check late.

Somers led the way offensively with two hits and a run scored, while Marks and Faychak each drove in a run. Pitt-Greensburg finished with six hits on the afternoon.
