Pitt-Greensburg used timely hitting and a decisive push through the middle innings to earn a 7-4 win over Mount Aloysius on Tuesday afternoon in Cresson.
The game opened as a pitchers' duel, with both sides held scoreless through the first three innings. Pitt-Greensburg starter Tyler Litts set the tone early, allowing just one hit over two innings. Landon Huth entered in the third and worked out of immediate trouble, stranding runners at second and third to keep the game scoreless and shift momentum toward the Bobcats.
The Bobcats broke through in the fourth inning. Josh Preston singled to spark the offense, and Landon Snider reached on a fielding error that allowed Preston to score the game's first run. Mount Aloysius answered in the bottom half, taking advantage of a Pitt-Greensburg error to even the score at 1-1.
Pitt-Greensburg responded right away in the fifth. Hunter Gideons led off with a double and moved to third before coming home on a sacrifice fly from Ben Aftanas, giving the Bobcats a 2-1 lead.
The offense continued to build in the sixth when Tommy Smith delivered a key swing, sending a solo home run to right field to extend the advantage to 3-1. Mount Aloysius answered with a solo homer of its own in the bottom of the inning, but Pitt-Greensburg maintained control.
The decisive moment came in the seventh inning. After Aftanas and Colby Rearick reached base, Smith put the ball in play and reached on an error that allowed a run to score. Colin Solinski followed with an RBI single, and another run crossed on a fielder's choice as the Bobcats capitalized on defensive miscues to stretch the lead to 6-2.
Pitt-Greensburg added an insurance run in the eighth when Rearick was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, forcing in Landon Snider to make it 7-3.
Mount Aloysius made one final push in the ninth, scoring a run and putting additional runners on base, but Mason Miller closed the door to secure the victory.
The Bobcats finished with 12 hits on the day, led by Tommy Smith's home run and two runs scored. Colin Solinski added three hits and an RBI, while Gideons contributed a pair of hits and a run scored. On the mound, Huth earned the win with three strong innings, and the bullpen combined to limit Mount Aloysius to just two earned runs.
