The Pitt-Greensburg women's tennis team came away with a 5-2 victory over Mount Aloysius College on Saturday at the Greensburg Racquet Club, with a powerful start in doubles and using that momentum to have clutch performances in singles to get this win.
The Bobcats pounced to the lead while securing the win in two of the three doubles matches. At No.1, Karen Rabe and Sophia Lepore proved to be dynamic duo, picking up a 6–4 victory. After battling a 6-6 tie, Bobcats No. 2 Gabi Moder and Jazzy Cherry fought through a tiebreaker to win 10-8. Mount Aloysius responded to No. 3 doubles as Mariah Hall and Masie Reed defeated Entzley and Emily Spino, 6-1. Despite the Mounties claiming #3 doubles, UPG came away with the point.
Gabi Moder delivered a strong performance at No. 1 singles, defeating Morgan Allen, 6-7 (3-7), 7-6 (7-2), 10-6. Karen Rabe took control of the court at No. 2 singles with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Lauryn Kitchen. To add another point to the Bobcats tally, Sophia Lepore at No. 3 singles won 6-2, 6-1. Mount Aloysius answered back with wins from Samara Scott and Mariah Hall at No. 4 and No. 5 singles The final match between Emily Spino and Masie Reed was proved to be the biggest battle of the day, after taking the first set in a 7-4 tiebreaker, she battled through the second set to win a 10-7 tiebreaker.
With the win, the Bobcats start the season 1-0 in AMCC play.
In the exhibition matches Audrey Johnson faces Quinn Sampeen and Johnson came away with a 6-4, 6-0 victory. In the second match Jenna Entzley took on Hailey Lowery and suffered defeat with a 7-5 loss.
The Bobcats' next battle is September 4th at Saint Vincent College.
