The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg women's soccer team battled Geneva College for 90 minutes Saturday afternoon but was unable to find the equalizer, falling 1-0 at Reeves Field.
The Bobcats (4-4) kept the match within reach throughout the afternoon, with Geneva's lone goal coming in the 29th minute. Noelle Beare scored off an assist from Philomena Hanna at 28:46 to give the Golden Tornadoes the advantage. Pitt-Greensburg goalkeeper Kira Howcroft helped keep the game scoreless early, making a pair of saves within the opening six minutes.
Pitt-Greensburg generated several opportunities of its own in the opening half. Bella Carroto put the Bobcats' first shot on goal in the 28th minute, forcing a save from Geneva goalkeeper Natalie Foster. Isabella Swartz nearly provided the equalizer just before halftime, sending an attempt off the crossbar at 42:17.Â
The Bobcats continued to push after the break. Riley Gesinski tested Foster less than a minute into the second half, while Pitt-Greensburg earned a corner in the 75th minute before Emma Reyes put another attempt on frame moments later. Hailey Baer and Abigail Ault also registered shots during the final 10 minutes as Pitt-Greensburg searched for the tying goal.
Pitt-Greensburg finished the afternoon with seven shots, including three on goal, while Geneva recorded nine shots with three on target. The Bobcats held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks. Howcroft played all 90 minutes in goal and made two saves.Â
Swartz led Pitt-Greensburg with two shots, while Reyes, Gesinski and Carroto each put an attempt on goal. Ault and Baer also recorded one shot apiece.
The setback moves Pitt-Greensburg to 4-4 overall as the Bobcats conclude the non-conference portion of their schedule.Â
Pitt-Greensburg will open AMCC play Saturday when the Bobcats host Pitt-Bradford at 3:15 p.m. The women's match will follow the Pitt-Greensburg men's game.
