The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg women's volleyball team fell to Chatham University in three sets Wednesday evening inside Chambers Hall, 25-10, 25-20, 25-10. The Bobcats moved to 0-2 on the young season with the loss.
Pitt-Greensburg was led offensively by Abigail Smulik, who recorded a team-high four kills while adding five assists, four digs and a solo block. Mia Stohon added three kills on four attempts without an error, finishing with a team-best .750 hitting percentage. Lilly Buckles chipped in two kills, six assists, five digs and a service ace.
After Chatham took the opening set, 25-10, the Bobcats responded with their strongest showing of the evening in the second. Pitt-Greensburg registered eight kills in the frame and battled through seven ties and two lead changes before the Cougars eventually pulled away for a 25-20 victory. Chatham then closed out the match with a 25-10 win in the third.
Defensively, Ainsley Martin paced Pitt-Greensburg with nine digs while also recording two service aces. Buckles and McKenna Pore each finished with five digs, while Damia Sibblies contributed two kills, two aces, three digs and a solo block.
The Bobcats finished the night with 16 kills, 12 assists, five service aces and 33 digs. Chatham hit .340 as a team and totaled 43 kills and 14 service aces.
The Bobcats return to action Friday as they travel to Wilimington.Â
