he University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg women's volleyball team earned a straight-set victory over Waynesburg on Tuesday evening at Chambers Hall, defeating the Yellow Jackets 25-16, 26-24 and 25-11.
The win improved the Bobcats to 2-4 overall, while Waynesburg fell to 0-4.
Pitt-Greensburg set the tone early, taking the opening set 25-16 behind an efficient offensive attack. The Bobcats recorded 12 kills with just four errors on 26 attempts, hitting .308 in the first set. The second proved to be the closest frame of the evening, featuring four ties and two lead changes before Pitt-Greensburg came away with a 26-24 victory. The Bobcats then closed out the match emphatically, holding Waynesburg to just 11 points in the third set to complete the sweep.
Abigail Smulik led the Pitt-Greensburg attack with a match-high 13 kills while committing just one attack error on 31 attempts for a .387 hitting percentage. Smulik also contributed 12 assists, seven digs and a service ace in an all-around performance. Mia Stohon was highly efficient at the net, finishing with seven kills on 11 swings with only one error for a .545 hitting percentage.
The Bobcats received contributions throughout the lineup. Lauren Fajbik and Damia Sibblies each added four kills, while Fajbik was involved in three blocks. Lilly Buckles handed out a team-high 14 assists and collected 11 digs, while Ainsley Martin anchored the defense with a match-high 18 digs. Martin and McKenna Pore each recorded two service aces, with Hannah Binns adding another ace and nine digs.
Pitt-Greensburg finished with a 34-24 advantage in kills and hit .194 for the match while limiting Waynesburg to a -.009 hitting percentage. The Bobcats also held a 59-51 advantage in digs and recorded six service aces compared to four for the Yellow Jackets. At the net, Pitt-Greensburg totaled four solo blocks and four block assists.
The Bobcats will return to Chambers Hall next Tuesday when they host Franciscan. The match will also serve as Pitt-Greensburg's Mental Health Awareness Night.
