Dr. Jeff McWilliams enters his eighth season as an assistant coach at the University of Pittsburgh Greensburg. McWilliams is the team’s hitting coach and works with the catchers, while also handling recruiting duties for the team.
In 2021, the team set a school record for batting average in a season. The Bobcats hit .354 and scored 193 runs. McWilliams helped land five Bobcats on the AMCC All-Conference Teams. The Bobcats earned the #6 seed in the AMCC Playoffs.
In 2019, Chris Common, Mikey Sullivan, and Ben Green all earned AMCC All-Conference honors and Common ended his Pitt-Greensburg baseball career as the program’s all-time leader in (176), doubles (40), runs scored (149), total bases (326) and tied for most triples (10).
After a tough start to the season, in which they posted just one win in the opening 10 games, McWilliams helped propel the Bobcats to a 13-11 record over the final 24 games, including a spot in the AMCC Tournament.
During his sixth season as an assistant with the Bobcats, McWilliams assisted Pitt-Greensburg to one of its best seasons in program history. Pitt-Greensburg set a program record with 26 wins, and advanced all the way to the AMCC Tournament Championship Series where they faced the top-seed La Roche.
Pitt-Greensburg’s banner season was bolstered by one of the nation’s top offensive units. Pitt-Greensburg ranked in the top 10 for home runs per game (4th-1.15), slugging percentage (.524), home runs (45), and on-base-percentage (9th-.433). Pit-Greensburg set single season records for highest on-base-percentage (.433), runs (346), home runs (45), RBI (311), walks (191), and hit-by-pitch (43), and finished second in batting average.
In 2017, Pitt-Greensburg put together a prolific season at the plate, ranking among the top-three teams in the AMCC in home runs (29), average (.326), on-base-percentage (.396), and slugging percentage (.481). Under his watchful eye, Chris Common and Tyler Holland both set the Pitt-Greensburg single-season record for home runs, and Holland set the single-game record for hits in a game (6-for-6).
Defensively, Under McWilliams’ coaching, Pitt-Greensburg’s three-catcher rotation of Derek Shaw, Anthony Pacelli and Ian Hart combined for a .967 fielding percentage in 2017. In total, the team combined for a .951 fielding percentage under McWilliams, good for third in the conference.
Dr. McWilliams has worked in baseball for over 30 years at both the college and high school levels, and has served as an Associate Scout for several Major League teams.
During his time at Pitt Greensburg catcher Anthony Bozzuto was named to the 2016 All Region team, becoming first Bobcat player to achieve that honor since 2007.
In addition to coaching at Pitt Greensburg, McWilliams worked as an Assistant coach for the Garrett Community College in McHenry, MD, served as the head coach for Geibel Catholic High School in Connellsville, PA as well as serving as an Assistant coach for the Connellsville Area School District. He has been a manager in the Fayette County Baseball semi-pro summer league and served over 20 years as President and Manager in the Connellsville Teener League.
Dr. McWilliams received his BS in Marketing Management from Seton Hill University in Greensburg, PA. He obtained his MS in Sports Management as well as PA K-12 School Leadership Certification and PA Vocational Director Certification from California University of Pa. He completed his DBA in Marketing Management from Anthem University and currently works for the Connellsville Area School District as a Principal. He resides in Dunbar, PA with his wife Vicki and has two children son Tyler and daughter Cailin.
