The 2012 campaign will mark the 15th season for Ted Wawrzyniak as Head Coach of the Pitt-Greensburg Men's Soccer team. Wawrzyniak is the only coach in the history of the UPG Men’s Soccer program, which began in 1998. He has coached 39 All-AMCC selections, four NSCAA All-Region selections, three AMCC Newcomers of the Year, three Academic All-District choices, two Academic All-Americans, and two AMCC 'Players of the Year' during his tenure.
Last season, Wawrzyniak led the Bobcats to a 6-11-1 record in the AMCC, earning a berth into the conference playoffs for the third consecutive season. The Bobcats fell in the first round 2-0 at Pitt-Bradford.
In 2004, Wawrzyniak's team claimed their second AMCC Championship and earned the program’s second NCAA Tournament berth with a 13-6-2 overall record. The 2004 campaign capped a successful three-year run in which the Bobcats compiled a 47-14-3 record, including a 19-2 season in 2002, which included the program’s first AMCC title and NCAA tournament berth as well as 15-6-1 mark in 2003, which saw UPG advance to the Semi-Finals of the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Region Tournament.
Still an active participant in amateur soccer, Wawrzyniak plays with the International Soccer Club in Western PA. The International Soccer Club, which he established in 1989, has claimed several championships since its inception, the most prestigious being the US Open Cup Champions in 1998.
Wawrzyniak also is a founder of the Foothills Soccer Club, in addition to helping to establish many other soccer programs throughout Western Pennsylvania. He was recognized in 1999 by the Pennsylvania West Soccer Organization as the first recipient of the Founders Award.
Additionally, Wawrzyniak holds national licenses with the United States Soccer Federation and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and is a member of numerous soccer organizations both in Pennsylvania and nationally.Â
