GREENSBURG, Pa: The Pitt-Greensburg men's basketball team improved to 2-0 in the AMCC with a 89-78 home victory over Penn State Altoona Wednesday evening.
The Bobcats are no 2-4 overall and remain undefeated to open up conference play while the Lions fall to 3-6 overall and 0-3 in the AMCC.
The fast paced, high powered Bobcat offense was on display in the first half Wednesday, as they shot 52% from the floor, racking up 46 first half points. The Lions actually outshot the Bobcats in terms of percentage (56%) from the floor, but UPG was able to get up more shots and built a 7 point halftime lead.
UPG was in control the entire second half and held a double digit lead the rest of the way. The Bobcats dominated on the glass, out-rebounding the Lions 41-27 on the night. UPG stayed hot from the field in second half, knocking down 7 of 14 shots from three point range.
Junior
Jerell Figueroa led the Bobcats with 21 points and 6 assists on the night in 31 minutes of work. Senior
Brian Heinle tallied 17 points including 3 of 4 from three point range while
Mike Connelly and
Rocco Contristano rounded out the scoring with 14 and 13 points, respectively.
Marcus Thomas was a beast on the glass for the Bobcats, hauling in a game- high 13 rebounds.
Pitt-Greensburg will look to remain atop the AMCC standings this weekend as they travel to Pitt-Bradford on Saturday (Dec 13
th) from a 3pm showdown with the Panthers.
