GREENSBURG, Pa: The Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball team won their second game in as many days, downing Penn State Behrend, 77-63 for a clean sweep of the weekend's Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference action. The win improves the Bobcats to 4-2 in conference play and 8-5 on the season while Behrend falls to 1-5 in the AMCC and 1-12 overall.
The Bobcats would have no hangover from Saturday's emotional win, establishing a lead just under seven minutes into the contest that they would not relinquish for the entire game.  A
Brittany Butterworth (Howard, PA, Bald Eagle) layup with 13:05 remaining in the first gave UPG a 10-8 advantage and got things rolling for the home team. Pitt-Greensburg would outscore the Lions 31-20 from that point forward and thanks to a buzzer-beating three by
Emily Merryman (Venus, PA, Cranberry) to end the half, the Bobcats would take a 13 point, 41-28 lead into break.
The second half would be much like the first with UPG extending the advantage to as many as 20 points. Penn State Behrend cut the deficit to nine points with 2:46 remaining, but the Bobcats would hold Behrend at bay down the stretch for a 14 point, 77-63 victory.
Pitt-Greensburg shot 40% from the floor and took care of business from the foul line, converting 87.5% (21-24) of their opportunities. They'd also outscore the Lions in the paint 40-24, win the turnover battle 19-11, and dominate the battle of the benches with the Bobcats outscoring the Behrend reserves 33-6.
A well balanced attack would put five different Pitt-Greensburg players in double figures.Â
Morgan Biddle (Flinton, PA, Glendale) would lead the way with 17 points, three rebounds, two blocks, and two steals. Butterworth was just a point behind with 16 and seven rebounds.Â
Kayla Dames (Oakdale, PA, Chartiers Valley) would finish with 12 points while pulling down a team high 8 boards and
Emily Nelson (New Stanton, PA, Hempfield) and Merryman would round things out after each scoring 11.
The third place Bobcats will travel to first place La Roche College this Wednesday at 6:00pm for a major AMCC matchup. Today's win marks the third straight conference victory for UPG while the Redhawks sit at 6-0 in conference play.
