GREENSBURG, Pa: The Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball team led from start to finish in Saturday's Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference victory over D'Youville College, dominating the paint, out-shooting, and out-rebounding the Spartans on their way to a convincing 76 -56 triumph.
The Bobcats pick up their third straight AMCC victory to improve to 7-3 in conference play and 11-6 on the season while DYC falls to 4-7 in the conference and 8-9 overall.
Pitt-Greensburg got things going early in the first with a pair of
Morgan Biddle (Flinton, PA, Glendale) buckets followed by two
Kayla Dames (Oakdale, PA, Chartiers Valley) layups for an early 8-0 lead. D'youville would keep things close for the majority of the half until another Dames basket, with just over a minute remaining gave UPG their first double-digit lead of the game at 31-20. The Spartans would get one back before the halftime buzzer and the teams would break for halftime with the Bobcats up 31-22. UPG would finish the first hitting 37% of their shots from the floor and hold a slight advantage over the visitors who would shoot 33%.
Once again the Bobcats would set the tone early with a
Brittany Butterworth (Howard, PA, Bald Eagle) layup and two
Emily Nelson (New Stanton, PA, Hempfield) free throws that stretched the lead back to double digits, 35-22. The Spartans could only get as close as 11 in the second half before eventually falling by 20 to the Bobcats, 76-56. The second would see an improved shooting output by UPG as they converted 46% and a solid defensive effort that held D'Youville to 30%.
On the night, Pitt-Greensburg would hold advantages in shooting 42% to 32%, rebounding 51-38, and absolutely own the paint where they'd outscore the Spartans 50-24.
