Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Bobcats Win Big at Altoona

GREENSBURG, Pa:  The Pitt-Greensburg women's basketball team notched their fourth straight Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference victory after defeating Penn State Altoona 71-56 on Wednesday evening.

With the win Pitt-Greensburg climbs to 8-3 in conference play and 12-6 overall while the Lions move to 6-6 in the AMCC and 7-11 on the season.

The Bobcats opened the game on a mission, orchestrating an 18-4 run that spanned close to nine minutes.  Pitt-Greensburg would maintain a double digit lead for the majority of the first half, stretching the advantage to as many as 15 points.  They'd hold Altoona to five made shots in the first, while converting 36% of their own offensive opportunities.  Morgan Biddle (Flinton, PA, Glendale) would pace Pitt-Greensburg with 11 first half points and would be a major reason the Bobcats took a 10 point, 31-21 lead into halftime.

Penn State would put their best foot forward to start the second, digging into the deficit and cutting UPG's lead to two, 35-33 at the 15:36 mark.  The Bobcat's answered with nine straight points in less than a minute, once again pushing the advantage back to double digits.  The run was capped by an Emily Nelson (New Stanton, PA, Hempfield) layup while being fouled.  After Nelson finished from the foul line, UPG would lead by 11 with 14:39 remaining.  That's as close as the Lions would get as the Bobcats stood strong down the stretch, cruising to the 15 point, 71-56 triumph.

Pitt-Greensburg would shoot an astounding 69% in the second, combining some solid movement and precise passing to consistently get themselves to the high percentage shots at the hoop.

On the night the Bobcats would shoot 50% from the floor, 33% from three, and finish 10 of their 11 free throws.  They'd also win the battle of the boards after outrebounding Altoona 45-29.

Biddle posted her fifth double-double of the season after finishing with a 21 point 13 rebound performance where see converted 75% (9-12) of her shots.  Nelson would also do her part with 16 points on 86% (6-7) shooting and 75% (3-4) from three while dishing out 7 assists in the win.

This Saturday, January 31st at 2:00pm the Bobcats are back in Chamber's Hall to face Pitt-Bradford in more than a battle for bragging rights.  The branch campus rivals face off in a mid-season battle for second place in the AMCC.  Bradford currently sits in second with a 9-2 record while Pitt-Greensburg is placed third with an 8-3 mark.  The Bobcats will look to avenge and early season defeat to the Panthers as they ride a four game winning streak into Saturday.
