Volleyball competes at Medaille tri-match

BUFFALO, NY:  The Pitt-Greensburg volleyball team dropped two more conference matches on Saturday afternoon against Medaille College and Hilbert University.

In the first match, Pitt-Greensburg fell in four sets against Medaille College. The bobcats lost the first two sets with scores 25-11 and 25-13, but battled back and won the third set 25-23. Medaille would clinch the victory in the fourth set winning 25-18. Junior Lauren Tassone led the Bobcats offense with 8 kills, while freshman Marla Shaffer led the team with 14 assists. Senior Kara Barclay and sophomore Erica Bosh would both add an ace in the match. The defense was led by junior Renee Ault who led the team with 12 digs, and a trio of players who tallied two blocks each including, Barclay, Tassone, and sophomore Amanda Ross.

In the second match, the Bobcats again fell in four sets against Hilbert University. Pitt-Greensburg fell behind early losing the first set 26-24, but quickly bounced back by winning the second set 25-18. However, it would be all Hilbert in the next two sets as they beat the Bobcats with scores of 25-14 and 25-22. The offense was led by freshman Megan Kirkpatrick, who led the team with 13 kills and also added two aces, and freshman Marla Shaffer who led the team with 18 total assists. Sophomore Erica Bosh added 3 aces in the match. Bosh would also lead the team in digs with 14, while Shaffer and junior Julie Barron would also add 12 digs. Sophomore Amanda Ross collected 3 blocks in the match to lead the team.

We would like to wish junior Elizabeth Gerda a quick recovery, after she was injured today during play.

Pitt-Greensburg fell to 1-17 and 0-8 in conference play today, but will be looking for their second win of the season when they take on Chatham University on Wednesday the 28th in Pittsburgh. The first set is scheduled to start at 7pm.
