GREENSBURG, Pa: The Pitt-Greensburg men's basketball team dropped a home contest to #11 ranked Christopher Newport Wednesday evening, 93-74.
The loss was the first for the Bobcats on their home court this season, as they fall to 5-2 overall on the season while the Captains improve to 8-0.
It was stiff test for the Bobcats, taking on a nationally ranked opponent for the first time this season. CNU shot nearly 55% from the floor in the first half, and held a commanding 47-33 at the break.
The Bobcats would twice cut the deficit to just 8 points in the second half, and did so with 2:33 remaining in the game. However the Captains bent but did not break, never trailing in the game, and ultimately left Chambers Hall with a decisive victory.
UPG finished 23 of 56 from the floor (41%) and were an uncharacteristic 19 of 29 (65%) from the free throw line.
Pitt-Greensburg was led by seniors Mike Connelly and Marcus Thomas. Connelly had a game high 23 points including 5 three point baskets. Thomas was right behind adding 20 points while grabbing 6 rebounds.
Rocco Contristano added 14 points and 7 assists while fellow senior Jerell Figueroa chipped in 7 points, 7 assists, and 7 rebounds over 37 mins of work.
The Bobcats will be back on their home court this Saturday, December 19
th when they host the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets. Tip-off for Saturday is set for 1pm. Â
