GREENSBURG, Pa: Behind
Mike Connelly's 29 points, the Pitt-Greensburg men's basketball team held off Waynesburg University, 97-88 in a non-conference contest.
The Bobcats got big contributions from their seniors once again, as they accounted for all 97 points in the victory.
The two teams got off to a slow start but eventually got engaged in a back and forth scoring affair. Both teams shot over 50% from the floor in first half and went into halftime deadlocked at 45-45.
UPG turned it on in the second half, as they have done consistently this season, shooting 60% from the floor in the second half, including 17 of 20 from the free throw line.
Connelly led all scorers with 29 points, on 11 of 19 shooting.
Marcus Thomas had a monster game as well putting up 17 points and 16 rebounds.
Rocco Contristano finished the game with 24 points and 5 rebounds, while also going a perfect 9 for 9 from the free throw line. Fellow senior
Jerell Figueroa rounded out the double-digit scorers, adding 17 points along with 5 assists.
UPG got 37 bench points including six from
Tyler DeWitt, and 2 apiece from both
Nick Anderson and
Doug Wilson to account for the remaining points.
The Bobcats will travel to Greensboro, North Carolina December 29
th and 30
th for a pair of non-conference contests at the Guilford College Classic. Matchups and game times are still to be determined.
