ALTOONA, Pa: The Pitt-Greensburg men's basketball team pulled away from Penn State Altoona with a big second half Wednesday night, 97-68.
With the win, the Bobcats start out AMCC play at 2-0 (4-1 overall) while the Lions fall to 0-3 in league play and 1-5 on the season overall.
UPG took a 12 point lead into halftime, despite an uncharacteristic 3 of 13 from three point range. The Bobcats weren't hitting from beyond the arc but they didn't really need to on this night as they still managed to shoot 47% from the floor in the first half, getting to the free throw line 13 times, making 11 of those chances.
The Bobcat defense held Altoona to just 27% from the floor in the first half, including a dismal 2 of 18 from three point range.
For the second straight game, the UPG offense exploded in the second half, putting up 53 points on 21 of 41 shooting.
UPG built up a lead of over 20 points mid-way through the second half and never looked back, leading by as many as 31 in the blowout victory.
All fifteen Bobcats contributed to the victory, led by senior
Rocco Contristano, who continues his torrid start to the season by adding 19 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Rocco was again perfect from the free throw line, connecting on both attempts, making it 32 straight dating back to last season.
Fellow senior
Marcus Thomas posted his second straight double-double with a 15 point, 11 rebound performance while classmate
Jerell Figueroa added 18 points and 5 rebounds in the victory.
The Bobcats will look to remain undefeated in league play this Saturday when they welcome Pitt-Bradford to Chambers Hall for a 1pm tip-off.
