GREENSBURG, Pa: The Pitt-Greenburg women's basketball team lost a hard fought battle to the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference's #1 team, La Roche College by a 73-66 score on Wednesday evening.
The Bobcats drop to 9-6 in the AMCC and 13-9 overall after the loss as La Roche improves to 15-0 in conference play and 18-4 on the season.
Four straight points by
Morgan Biddle (Flinton, PA, Glendale) and a layup by
Sylvia Stuart (Harrisburg, PA, Central Dauphin East) to start the game gave Pitt-Greensburg a 6-0 lead before the Redhawks would get on the board. UPG would hold onto the advantage for the games first nine and a half minutes until a jumper from LRC would put the visitors up 15-14 and start a back forth affair for the remainder to the half. The next nine minutes would see 13 lead changes before back to back layups by
Casey Hamilton (Greensburg, PA, Hempfield) and
Lindsey McKamish (Pittsburgh, PA, Fox Chapel) gave the Bobcats a three point advantage with 1:07 remaining in the first. The Redhawks would cut it to one, but still trail 32-31 as the teams broke for halftime.
The Bobcats would outshoot the opposition 41% to 33% and hold a 23-19 advantage in rebounds.
Kayla Dames (Oakdale, PA, Chartiers Valley) would lead the way with 12 first half points with Biddle and Stuart chipping in with six apiece.
Four more lead changes would start the second before La Roche would take the lead for good at the 15:19 mark. Pitt-Greensburg's deficit would not grow to more than two possessions until just 1:40 remained. Dames would finish two of three free throws with 18 ticks left to bring the score to 68-64, but La Roche would stand strong to earn the 73-66 victory.
On the night, UPG would convert 39% from the floor and 77% from the charity stripe to the Redhawks' 35% and 75%. They'd also win the rebound battle, 42-38.
Dames would pace Pitt-Greensburg after scoring 20 points along with 3 assists, 3 blocks, and 3 steals. Biddle also had a standout night, finishing with 17 points and a game high 14 rebounds.
The third place Bobcats will look to send Biddle, Dames, and the rest of their class off right when they host Hilbert College this Saturday, February 14
th for the 2:00pm Senior Day match up.
