Biddle scores 1,000th in Bobcats Semifinal Win over Bradford

Pittsburgh, Pa:  Trailing 49-48 with just one second remaining, the fate of the Bobcats season would rest soley on the shoulders of Pitt-Greensburg senior, Morgan Biddle (Flinton, PA, Glendale).  She'd stand at the foulline and cooly sink her first shot to tie things up, 49-49. A Bradford timeout would follow, but to no avail as Biddle coverted the second to advance the Bobcats to the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference final with a 50-49 victory.

#3 Pitt-Greensburg advances to the tournament final with the win and improves to 18-9 on the year as the #2 Panthers' season comes to a close with a 17-8 mark.

A hard fought first half would create little seperation between these branch campus rivals.  The largest lead of six would be owned by Pitt-Bradford, thanks to a layup as time expired in the first that put the Panthers up 27-21 going into the break.  Pitt-Greensburg was led by Biddle who finished with 11 first half points.

The Bobcats would use the first nine minutes of the second half to erase their deficit.  A Brittany Butterworth (Howard, PA, Bald Eagle) layup at the 10:48 mark capped an 18-6 run and put Pitt-Greensburg up 35-33.  Over the next few minutes both teams would trade baskets, finding themselves tied at 39-39 with 7:05 remaining and Biddle at the line.  She'd convert both foul shots, the second collecting her 1,000 career point and once again putting UPG up by two.

Pitt-Bradford would answer with a run of their own and capture a 48-45 lead with 1:25 left in the game.  Though, on the next Bobcat offensive posession Emily Nelson (New Stanton, PA, Hempfield) would answer with a big three to tie the game at 48-48 with just over a minute left on the clock.  A Panther free throw with :33 left would set the stage for Biddle's last second heroics.

As the Bobcats moved the ball down the court for what seemed to be their last posession, some solid defense by Bradford forced a turnover as they collapsed on Biddle in the paint with just 14 seconds remaining.  Pitt-Greensburg, with time dwindling would step up the pressure, contesting every option and forcing a long inbound pass by Bradford from under the Bobcat basket.  Biddle would read the play and intercept the pass, handing it off  for the offense's last oppurtunity.  After patiently waiting for their best option, Lindsey McKamish (Pittsburgh, PA, Fox Chapel) found Biddle as she broke to the hoop to draw the foul right at the final second of regulation.  Biddle in clutch fashion converted both, giving UPG the 50-49 victory and a berth in the 2015 AMCC Championship final.

Pitt-Greensburg shot 36% from the floor on the night and a solid 78% (14-18) from the foul line.

Biddle's milestone night was capped with a 25 point performance that included six rebounds, three steals, and one block.  She'd also convert 11 of 13 free throws including the game winning pair.

The Bobcats now move on to face #1 La Roche College in the AMCC Tournament Finals tomorrow Saturday, February 28th at 3:00pm.  The winner will move on to the NCAA women's basketball tournament.
